Obituary for BERNARD C. HANKE

BERNARD HANKE, 80, a lifelong resident of Yonkers NY, passed away on Friday, March 24, 2017.



Bernie grew up in Yonkers and as a young man worked as a truck driver for Bryn Mawr Trucking Company. He then became a Sgt. in the 101st Signal Battalion, following in the Hankes' long history of service in the Army. When Bernie returned from service, he became a dedicated employee in the maintenance department of the City of Yonkers Public School System.



Bernie was a long time member of the N.Y. State Department of Environmental Conservation where he spent many Springs stocking trout in the Westchester County Reservoir System. But his longtime passion was his love for his dogs and the outdoors where he spent countless hours with his buddies fishing and hunting. He received first place in the Bow Hunters Championship 3X in the 1970's. One of many adventures was his cross country trip to Alaska which generated stories that he told throughout his lifetime.



Bernie is survived by his brother-in-law, Raymond Sledzinski of Yonkers, aunt, Joan Zatkovich of Copake NY, nephew, Raymond (Judy) Sledzinski, nieces, Joanne (Billy) Olimpio and Lorraine (Dana) Ashton, all of Yonkers, and his niece, Donna Hanke. He is also survived by his grand-niece, Jennifer Sledzinski, and grand-nephews, Michael and Matthew Sledzinski, Danny and Kenny Olimpio and Paul Ashton, along with many loyal cousins and friends who will miss him dearly.



Visitation will take place at DUCHYNSKI-CHERKO Funeral Home, Inc. (601 Yonkers Ave., Yonkers NY 10704) on Friday, March 31, 2017 from 7PM to 9PM.



Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Casimir's Church on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at 11AM. Interment is Private.

Funeral:
SATURDAY--4/1/2017 @11AM IN ST. CASIMIR'S CHURCH
